A69 Sign-posting
I feel that it may be in the interests of the few people who
signed the petition
for the reduction of heavy traffic through Wylam to know
that Prudhoe, thanks
to the excellent response of its residents in signing their
petition and the 100%
backing of its District Councillors, have been successful in
having a sign
placed on the A69 signposting Prudhoe through Wylam. I
am sure that we will
all enjoy the increased traffic generated and especially the
elderly that have to
cross the road in front of the institute to gain access to
the shops. My son
fought hard for this not to happen but this was entirely
without the help of his
fellow district councillor who on three occasions refused to
sign the petition his
excuse being that other villages in the district had greater
problems? I wonder
if he also sits as a district councillor on those councils
also and also ponder on
which village residents elected him to represent them on
Tynedale??? I have
lived in Wylam all my life and have one of Wylams oldest
surnames if not the
oldest continuous surname, but I am afraid that nothing has
changed with the
residents still sitting on their backsides hoping someone
else will sort it out. No
doubt the Halls of the local public houses will ring with
futile complaints when
this action results in increased traffic or maybe an
accident or two. To this
effect have warned my son in no uncertain terms to
ensure that he completes
his last year at University successfully and forget about
village complaints and
maybe let his fellow district councillor move his behind and
actually look at
doing something for Wylam (I mean that does not generate the
glory that he
has grown used to) and not feel so bad about the other
villages problems but
that of the one that he was elected to represent. I
suppose that I should take
this opportunity to thank the two Wylam residents that
offered to help my son
in this campaign although they failed to turn up?
I conclude by congratulating Prudhoe on there
successful campaign and the
very large number of residents who signed their
petition backing they gave to
their elected councillors well done, as we are sure to
suffer.

Father of Nicholas Appleby Tynedale District Councillor.
