I visited Sri Lanka in November/December 2004 and was so impressed by the countryside and the honest, friendly cheerfulness of the people.

Like most people I was shocked at the news of December 2004and the realisation that people I had talked with only weeks before would have died or had their homes and lives destroyed. For part of my stay I was in the Riverina hotel which was slightly damaged by the sea, this picture is of another hotel close by. This year(2005) I returned as I felt that was a way of helping people to recover - if tourists don't go then the people have no jobs. On my journey I met a Sri Lankan Catholic priest who runs an orphanage in Kandy. I am not a Catholic or particualarly religious myself but as he is providing concrete help to those in need I have made a web page to try and help him continue to help.
